Club History

Founding
The Central Toronto Diving Club was founded in 1996 by Anna Dacyshyn. Dacyshyn, a nine times national champion, and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, had been diving for the University of Toronto Team. It was a high performance club with no developmental training. Then the diving program was cancelled. As she explains it,  "When all the divers I trained with retired, there was no one to keep [the club] going, it was going to disappear."

Dacyshyn retired from competitive diving in 1992 ,and after finding no diving clubs in downtown Toronto, she decided to start her own. "I just sort of took it upon myself to keep diving going downtown," she said. Hence, the Central Toronto Diving Club came into being.

Growth
The club grew very quickly, and within a year had over 70 divers. Unlike the U of T team, CTDC had a mix of competitive and recreational divers. Today, it boasts over 80 divers, with a waiting list to get in. The divers range from age six to adults and come in all skill levels.

Structure and Name Change
In the year 2000, CTDC changed from a being a privately run club, to a non-profit organization, managed by a volunteer board of directors. Then in 2006, it once again became a private club, and renamed Dive Toronto.
